Service and Responsibilities
- Develops, implements and enforces County land use policies and regulations.
- Processes and issues building, zoning, and other development permits.
- Administers County floodplain regulations.
- Completes long-range community planning.
- Supports the Shawnee County Planning Commission, the Shawnee County Board of Zoning Appeals, and the Shawnee County Commission.
Permitting Information
Property Located in the City Limits – For building permit information, call 785.368.3704. For zoning information, call 785.368.3728.
Land Division – Any division of land in the City of Topeka's Three Mile Jurisdiction must be approved by the City Planning Department (785.368.3728) prior to applying for a County building permit.
Permit Fees
– Paid either by check or credit card (2.5% fee applies). Cash is no longer accepted.
Septic Site Inspection – The Shawnee County Environmental Health division requires a septic site inspection. It does not matter whether the new structure will have water or bathroom. If you have any questions, call 785.251.5750.
Driveway Entrance – Contact Shawnee County Public Works at 785.251.6075 for information.
