Principal Duties: Responsible for the oversight and administration of the Planning Department and its functions; provides for the supervision, development, and management of staff; coordinates with other organizations, agencies and governmental entities; implement and evaluates the guidelines, principles, and policies of land use proposals and development for Shawnee County; sets and implements the Planning Department budget; serves as secretary to the Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals; prepares presentations of projects, programs, and policies to present to the Board of County Commissioners and/or Planning Commission.

Principal Duties: Coordinates the management of all land use management / planning cases and all permit applications; reviews and evaluates applications and ensures compliance with zoning, subdivision, floodplain and other adopted codes and regulations. Assists the public by providing information regarding planning, zoning, and building permit procedures and regulations; analyzes and explains applicable provisions. Provides overall support to the Planning Director and Floodplain Manager. Oversees the compilation of the Department's budget; oversees all accounting and payroll operations for the office.

Principle Duties: The first point of contact to the Planning Department; responsible for providing specialized administrative support to the department, including the initial intake and processing of permit and case applications, processing payments, responding to inquiries from the public, utilizing the county GIS system to research parcels, collecting and assembling data for cases, maintaining department records, and providing accounting and payroll assistance.

The Shawnee County Planning Department is located at the Shawnee County North Annex, 1515 NW Saline Street, in the Topeka Industrial and Business Park. For easy access, take US 75 Highway and exit at NW Lower Silver Lake Road and go east for approximately three-quarters of a mile, turn south on NW Saline Street and go one block to the Shawnee County Annex.
