Early Voting begins Monday, July 20th at the Shawnee County Election Office during the following hours:

  • 8:00 am - 7:00 pm Monday-Friday, July 20-24 and July 27-31
  • 8:00 am - Noon on Monday, August 3rd

The Election Office is located at the corner of SW Van Buren and SW Croix Streets. The entrance to the parking lot is from SW Croix Street, 400 feet west of S Kansas Avenue.

Advance Mail Ballots have been mailed via the USPS. Mail Ballots may be returned by mail, in person to our staffed drop box on the north side of the Election Office during the hours listed above. On Election Day Mail Ballots may be dropped off at any Poll Place in the county or at the Election Office. All Mail Ballots delivered in person must be turned in no later than 7:00 pm on Election Day.
Under Kansas statute, the deadline to return your ballot is the close of the polls on Election Day. A district court judge in Douglas County has entered a temporary injunction altering that deadline. However, the Secretary of State, represented by the Attorney General, has filed a motion with the Kansas Appellate Courts to stay the decision so that the deadline remains the close of the polls on Election Day. Because of the legal uncertainty while the matter is pending on appeal, voters are urged to return their ballots by the close of the polls on Election Day. Doing so will ensure that their ballots will be counted.

Any registered voter can vote by mail or in person before Election Day.

  • To request a Mail Ballot, complete the advance voting application and mail it to 3420 SW Van Buren Street, Topeka, KS 66611, email it to [email protected] or fax it to (785) 251-5999.
  • You can have your ballot mailed to you starting 20 days before the election.
  • You may vote in person at the county election office before the election (no application is necessary). Extended office hours occur prior to each election. Please check the calendar.
  • Mail Ballots may be returned by mail or in person to our staffed drop box on the north side of the Election Office during operational hours. On Election Day they may be returned to any Poll Place in Shawnee County, or to the drop box. All Mail Ballots delivered in person must be turned in no later than 7:00 pm on Election Day.   • Sick, disabled, or voters who lack proficiency in English may receive assistance in applying for and casting Advance Mail Ballots.
  • Disabled voters also qualify for permanent status, so that a ballot is automatically mailed to them without having to reapply for each election.
