Training: All Election Workers are required by law to complete training before each election. Training classes are typically held about 3 weeks before the election and are offered at a variety of times including evenings and weekends. The basic Election Worker Training Class lasts 3 hours and a training book is provided. When classes are open for enrollment you will receive an email from us instructing how to sign up for a class and you can choose one that best fits your schedule. Many of our Supervising Judges try to coordinate all their workers to attend training together, but this doesn't always work and is not required. If you need to change your class, you must coordinate with the Election Office to schedule a different session.
You must complete the full training to be authorized to work on Election Day. Arriving significantly late or leaving early will result in your removal as an Election Worker.
Compensation: Election Workers who complete a full-day shift are paid a daily rate of $125.00. Half day shifts are paid $56.00. Training classes are paid an hourly rate of $8.00/hour. Supervising and Assistant Supervising Judges are paid an extra stipend to account for their additional responsibilities.
Pay Checks are mailed 2 to 4 weeks after each election. The checks come from the County Clerk at the Shawnee County Courthouse. A Paystub Item Detail Letter is sent out separately and should be kept for your records. We do not send out any W2 or 1099 forms. All questions about pay should be directed to the Election Office.
