Welcome
Sheriff Brian C. Hill announces the development of a civilian motorized posse that will be used for certain types of incidents that occur in the county. The Sheriff’s Office receives multiple calls each year related to runaways, walkaways, and missing persons. Interested citizens, who are at least 21 years old, would go through an application process and complete a background check. Citizens selected would complete various training topics related to search and rescue.
For more information please contact Shawnee County Sheriff's Office Community Services Unit: 785.251.2444.
- ATV/UTV Safety
- First Aid in the Field
- Field Search Techniques
- Applicants will not be allowed to participate in activities on any horse that has not been approved.
The training presentations will be held at remote, open locations in the county where proper safety procedures can be implemented. If any homeowners with acreage would be interested in hosting one of the training presentations, they are asked to contact the Community Services Unit at 785-251-2216. The trainings would be in the evening.
The goal of the Civilian Search and Rescue Initiative is to create multiple teams geographically located throughout the county to decrease response time during an incident.
