Education & Post-Graduation Employment
Teresa Fisher, RN, BSN served as the Family Health Division Manager from September 2016 to May 2021 and on May 6th, 2021 became the Director for the Shawnee County Health Department. She began working for the Shawnee County Health Department in 2005 as a staff nurse doing newborn home visits and WIC clinic. She served as the Maternal Child Health Outreach Team Leader from April 2008 to September 2016. Prior to her time at SCHD, she worked at St. Francis Health Center in their nursing float pool on a number of different units.
Teresa is a 2001 Cum Laude graduate of Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences and a 2003 Summa Cum Laude graduate of Washburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She has been involved in a variety of honor societies including: Sigma Theta Tau, Phi Kappa Phi, Golden Key and Mortar Board.
Current Work
Teresa currently serves as chair for the Healthy Babies workgroup for the Shawnee County Health Improvement Plan through Heartland Healthy Neighborhoods. She also serves as project lead for the Fetal Infant Mortality Review (FIMR) Program of Shawnee County and coordinates both the Case Review Team and Community Action Team.
She currently oversees the Nurse Family Partnership program, the Maternal Child Health Block Grant programs and the Fetal Infant Mortality Review program. Teresa has a true passion for helping babies and families in Shawnee County be the healthiest they can be. She loves working with community partners to help accomplish this work.
Leadership
- 2015 Selected by the Kansas Infant Death and SIDS Network (KIDS Network) to be a safe sleep instructor for the state.
- Serves on the Early Childhood Collaboration (ECC) executive team for Shawnee County.
