SWAT Team
The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team was established in 1972. It is comprised of specially trained deputies coming from various units within the agency giving the Team a wide variety of backgrounds and experience. The SWAT Team is called upon to assist in a variety of situations including hostage or barricade situations, dignitary protection, warrant service, and other special assignments. The SWAT Team works closely with the Drug Enforcement Unit serving narcotics search warrants and also with the Negotiation Team. The SWAT Team has monthly training to prepare for tactical situations and to practice new techniques. Team members also attend regional and national training. The SWAT Team holds an active membership in the National Tactical Officers Association. Sergeant Andrew Dale is the Team Commander and Corporal Steve Evans is Second in Command. Captain Shane Hoobler provides team oversight.
