Meet the DA
Mike Kagay was the youngest DA ever elected in Kansas history. He attended Washburn
University, receiving a degree in English Literature in 2005, before pursuing his Juris Doctor at
the Washburn School of Law. After graduation, Mike accepted a position in the DA's Office, and
served there as an Assistant DA until taking office as the District Attorney in 2017.
As the District Attorney, Mike targets prosecution of violent crimes, sex crimes, and crimes
against children.
He is motivated by a passion for justice, speaking for victims, and protecting the innocent. Mike
and his team prosecute thousands of cases each year, as they work to make our community safer
and stronger for our families.
Mike serves on the Board of the Kansas County and District Attorney's Association, the
Supreme Court Advisory Committee for Specialty Court Funding, and the Kansas Fights
Addiction Act Grant Review Board. When he's not working, Mike enjoys spending time with his
wife Hannah and their five children. The Kagay family is proud to call Shawnee County home.
