Job Title: Assistant District Attorney
FLSA Status: Exempt
Pay Range Starting at $80,000 (DoQ)
Overview
Assistant District Attorneys are responsible for carrying out the duties of the District Attorney as assigned. Primarily, this position consists of preparing and prosecuting traffic, misdemeanor and low level felony criminal cases.
Primary Duties
- Reviews and screens, with minimal supervision, law enforcement reports and affidavits to determine if, and what, criminal charges are appropriate.
- Prepares civilian and law enforcement witnesses for their testimony.
- Performs legal research and drafts appropriate legal pleadings.
- Reviews and evaluates evidence and presents same in evidentiary hearings and trials;
- Confers with court and defense counsel regarding amendment and disposition of charges.
- Works with law enforcement officers and provides legal training on the investigation and preparation of prosecution cases.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Graduation from a recognized and accredited school of law and admission to the Bar of the State of Kansas.
- Knowledge of traffic, juvenile and criminal laws of the State of Kansas; rules and procedures of justice and district courts; basic techniques of preparation of traffic and criminal cases.
- Ability to perform basic legal research and present evidence in atmosphere of criminal trial.
